A landlords guide to Council Tax

The landlord of the property is responsible for paying any council tax until the tenancy officially commences. The tenant is responsible for then paying the council tax until the end of the tenancy, unless otherwise stated in the agreement.

The amount of council tax which is owed depends on your circumstances, such as:

  • You live on your own
  • You are a full time student
  • The property is unfurnished
  • The property is unoccupied
  • Furnished second homes or holiday homes

The reliable way to find out more information, is directly from your local council, as this can also effect the amount payable.
